Reusable Food Storage Bag FAQs
Q: What are LunchSkins reusable bags made of?
A: Lunchskins are made from a proprietary quick drying fabric that is coated with a food-safe polyurethane liner. This unique high-quality fabric was originally manufactured for pastry bags used in bakeries, restaurants and home kitchens. Additionally, Lunchskins are grease-proof and moisture proof making them ideal for messy sandwiches and snacks.
Q: What are the recommended wash & care instructions for Lunchskins reusable bags?
A: Lunchskins reusable bags are top-rack dishwasher-safe. Please turn your bags inside out for washing. You can also wash your Lunchskins reusable bags in the cold cycle, inside out in your washer. We recommend air-drying the bags open to allow for appropriate airflow. Please dry your bags thoroughly before using or storing. We do NOT recommend putting your reusable bags in your dryer.
Q: Can you heat or freeze your Lunchskins reusable bags?
A: Freezer Safe
Lunchskins reusable zippered bags are freezer-safe and ideal for storing bagels and other dry goods.
We do not recommend the fridge or freezer for your Lunchskins Compostable + Unbleached Paper Bags. Some of our customers have had success using our Recyclable + Sealable Bags in the freezer.
Do NOT Heat
Lunchskins bags are not meant to be heated in the microwave or the oven.
Q: How long will my Lunchskins reusable bags last?
A: Some say forever and that's a mighty long time we're hear to tell you! So many of our Lunchskins fans send us emails and share photos with us on social media of their bags. We've seen photos of bags that are over 8 years old and still look brand new. While LunchSkins are extremely durable and can last for years, everyone’s care and daily use routines are different. If you find that you are in need of a Lunchskins bag refresh, don't throw the old ones out! Just retire them for other uses, like holding spare change, gift cards, small game pieces, school supplies, and extra stuff in your car, purse or backpack. Or, you can repurpose them—learn more at https://www.lunchskins.com/pages/repurpose.
Q: Will the inside (white) of my Lunchskins reusable bag discolor?
A: While Lunchskins are extremely durable and can last for years, Lunchskins are made from a quick-drying fabric, essentially they are still fabric. Too, the inside fabric is white, and white can discolor over time or when coming into contact with certain foods or other items in the dishwasher. We recommend spot treating any stains with dish soap and a small brush, or, washing them inside out in the washing machine.
Q: What makes LunchSkins food-safe?
A: All Lunchskins products have been rigorously tested by independent, third-party labs for the presence of lead, Bisphenol-A (BPA), and phthalates to comply with FDA-approved food-safe standards and to ensure the safety, quality and integrity of our bags. Lunchskins meets all federal and state (including California) consumer product safety standards.
Q: Are LunchSkins air-tight and suitable for long-term food storage?
A: Lunchskins reusable bags are not completely air-tight and thus not suitable for long-term food storage. They are perfect for on-the-go use and for foods that will be eaten the same day.
Q: Are Lunchskins reusable bags dishwasher-safe?
A: Yes, Lunchskins are top-rack dishwasher safe - simply turn the bags inside out, drape the bag over the tines. Because of their origins in the food industry, they are very durable and can withstand high heat cleaning. This makes them perfect for repeated use. We recommend that Lunchskins be washed before first use and, while lightweight and fast-drying, remove them from the dishwasher promptly and make sure they are dried completely before using with food. We recommend air-drying the bags open to allow for appropriate airflow.
In addition, we do not recommend storing food in Lunchskins for longer than a few hours in high humidity environments, like the refrigerator. Finally, expect Lunchskins to soften and fade with use and multiple washings - just like a pair of favorite old jeans.
Q: Can I wash my Lunchskins reusable bags in the washing machine?
A: Yes, Lunchskins can be used in your washing machine. We recommend turning them inside out and washing them in a cold water cycle. We do NOT recommend putting them in the dryer. Please allow them to thoroughly dry before using them. We recommend air-drying the bags open to allow for appropriate airflow.
Q: Are Lunchskins just for food?
A: We don’t think so. Lunchskins are a great for many things because they offer the same convenience as a familiar plastic baggie, but are easily washable and durable for a range of uses. The design is based on that of common zippered baggies, so a traditional pb&j sandwich fits perfectly within the 6 x 6 inch pouch; cookies, crackers and fruit fit nicely within the snack size; and the big size will hold a stuffed hoagie. They have so many practical and creative uses. Here is what our customers tell us........lipsticks, dog treats, wallet and keys, ice for boo-boos, pacifiers, baby toiletries, travel cosmetic case, and any other treats or loose messy items we want to fashionably stash away.
Q: Will my kids bring them home?
A: Yes, but take a few steps to help them. First, personalize your Lunchskins with a permanent marker on the nameplate. Remind the little ones that Lunchskins are not trash, only their leftovers are.
Q: Why are Lunchskins considered a green product?
A: To be worthy of the term "green", a product must offer some environmental benefit. Here is how Lunchskins stack up: our bags replace single-use bags that end up in landfills. The plastic sandwich bags you've used for years take up space in landfills and often end up in the waterways where your family loves to swim. Each Lunchskin reusable bag is produced only once but can be used hundreds of times thereby reducing pollution and waste. 1 Lunchskins Reusable Bag Replaces 500+ Plastic Bags in its lifetime!

Q: How long do the paper bags take to decompose?
We cannot advise the exact amount of time that it will take for our paper bags to decompose in your home composting process. However, on average it can take 2 weeks to 3 months. There are a lot of variables to the decomposition time, but, you can do certain things to speed up that process.
The amount of time the paper takes to decompose varies. For example, if the temperature drops to freezing, the paper won't decompose.
